The Real Guitar Video Game

March 6th, 2010 Techno Wizkid No comments

The REAL, I said. The REAL one. This is the one where you learn a real, actual, applicable beyond the game skill. Habeeb it! The designer of this project had the idea stop upon his mind-grapes while he was watching friends jam upon Guitar Hero and Rock Band all day long. He thought hey, they’re so good at this, but they can’t play a real guitar at all! Well wouldn’t you know it, he was (and is!) an industrial designer so he pumped up his muscles and got to work creating what he calls “Vision.”

Vision is a self-teaching electric guitar. It’s an LED-lit neck and body working in unison with guitar learning software. Tune is always tune, reducing the time a student uses on this elementary task. Vision teaches through games involving visual and audio feedback. Chords, percussion, and popular music are played alongside the student to provide easy assistance, allowing the student to become familiar with the instrument in an environment they’re basically already used to.

Connect to a computer with Bluetooth, plug in an amp, or go unplugged with battery. Gameplay is very similar to popular guitar games out now where students complete levels, difficulties, and unlock challenges.

Connecting to an amp allows the student to play uninhibited. The guitar has regular tone and volume knobs as well as a built-in effects system.

Unplugged works on rechargeable batteries, LED lit fretboard and rear-mounted speaker allow the student to practice or play portably.

The guitar comes standard with several interchangeable bodies to appease any weirdly shaped person.

Crazy Mouse Moves Away From Your Hand

crazy mouse Crazy Mouse Moves Away From Your Hand
Today’s prize for “a lot of work for not that much result” goes to the Crazy Mouse. The crazy mouse is one of the weirdest mods we’ve come across- I’m not sure why you’d want to do this other than as a practical joke. Ok, it would be pretty funny I guess. But worth the extensive effort to make it? Ehhh.

Anyway, this mouse will move away from your hand as you try to grab it. Great party trick. It does this via a light sensor that detects the shadow of your hand which turns on a motor for a second or two and moves the mouse away. It’s a pretty advanced mod, check out this laundry list of items you’ll need:
-Copper Boards
-Printed Circuit
-Photocell
-22k Resistor
-47uF Electrolyte Capacitor
-TIP122 Transistor
-555 IC
-10k Potentiometer
-Some Wire
-Iron
-Soldering Iron
-Soldering Wire
-Circuit Boards Acid
-Paper Tape
-Sandpaper
-Wire Cutter
-1mm Drill
-Old Computer Mouse
-Small Motor
-4 AA Batteries
-A piece of Rubber Tube
-Glue
-1N4148 Diode
-0.1uF Ceramic Capacitor (104)
-Some Tools
So since neither you nor I is actually going to make this, why not check out the action video:

Art Lebedev’s Segmentus Clock is Mesmerizing

segmentus black 1000 500x351 Art Lebedevs Segmentus Clock is Mesmerizing
New from the geniuses over at Art Lebedev Studio comes the Segmentus Clock (ru). This mesmerizing clock uses segmented rotating lines to form LCD style numerals on the clock. Each segment of what would be an LCD number (but is not, it’s analog) is actually an articulating arrow- almost like a tiny clock hand itself. That’s a tricky explanation but check out animation on Art’s page or the screenshot video I took for those of you without flash:

I could literally watch this clock for a good portion of my day. It’s almost hypnotic. Segmentus is just a new concept right now but we’ve seen many Art Lebedev concepts go from idea to store, sometimes relatively quickly, so keep your eyes peeled.

Swinging The Other Way

March 4th, 2010 Techno Wizkid No comments

Most of the time you’re nudging your co-bench partner to give you more seat space. So essentially sitting on benches really sucks. Generally they’re hard slabs of wood or concrete and do nothing much for your posterior or fun! This is the reason why we need more of the Swing Together Bench; I don’t need to say much…just have a look at the video and you’ll get the full picture. Google Offices can do with this swing!
