The Turn On Lamp

Here is another interesting lamp design for today, the Turn On Lamp, the design was inspired by the logo for on/off on electronic devices, as you can see from the photos it looks similar to our logo.

The Turn on Lamp is switched on and off by changing the orientation of the lamp, and it is designed to be used both indoors and outdoors, and rather than being connected to the mains it features a built in rechargeable battery.

Unfortunately it is just a design at the moment, lets hope they put these into production as I really like the design.

The Coil Lamp

October 14th, 2009 widget lover No comments

We have seen quite a few different lamp designs here at Geeky Gadgets, the latest one by designer Craighton Berman, is definitely one of the most innovative designs we have seen.

The lamp is made up of the power cord, and the cord is coiled around a frame to give it the shape of a lamp.

The Coil Lamp

Coil Lamp reduces the domestic lamp to the absolute minimum of defining elements. A single electrical cord coils around what appears to be an empty volume, defining the iconic form of a table lamp and ultimately powering a single light bulb.

The entire form is created exclusively from a single 100 foot extension cord that has been wrapped around a laser-cut clear plexiglass form. This simple transformation elevates the status of the humble, everyday extension cord to the realm of high design.

Very cool, I love the design, if you want one they are available for $150 from Craighton Berman.

Tokyo Univerity Presents a High Speed book-scanning system

High-Speed-book-scanning-system

Ishikawa Komuro Laboratory showing their new invention of a High speed computer vision technology. This High speed book scanning system using a fast capture camera which it can capture a turning page at 1000 frame per second.

The camera uses lights connected to a synchronized control circuit and a laser range projector to estimate the three-dimensional page geometry.  This allows it to correct any distortion from the page being turned while at the same time flashing it with uniform, ideal lighting.  The 3D data can even be reproduced on a computer.  The system could theoretically be used for color copying as well, but the current quality of the scanning data still requires some improvement. Google has been digitizing books and a system has been developed to automate page-turning to reduce the human labor component in this time-consuming, expensive line of work.

Its seem the Superman and Chloe Sullivan ability has been absorb by our technology, it will be more amazing if we can do the same. So its possible for us to do? according to meditation method, the answer is possible. Its only the matter of time.

The Up and Down Lamp

August 8th, 2009 Techno Wizkid No comments

Lumix is a lamp that shines either up, down, or up and down. That’s it! I mean there are other details that you might want, like, where can I buy one, but basically the smart idea’s in the pudding! A block in the middle of the lamp and two bulbs. This is precisely what me, a night-working fellow, needs in the apartment.

Lemme go ahead and halte you doubters out there by saying this: when I say I want a product, when Chris Burns gets all up and hands-in-the-air crazy about a product, that means I definitely love it. That means, in the case of most cases on Yanko, I hope it makes it to the production line.

In this case, yes, I can see this baby shining bright beside my bright red loveseat. The top cover you see there is any one of several kinds of textiles you can cover the metal ring with, as the light shining upward is meant to be a soft, room covering light. The bottom shade is made of off-white cotton in order to direct the light downward “creating a warm, homogenous lighting.

Lumix is designed to create a variety of lighting scenarios. The bipartite lumiscent shade holds two bulbs which can be lit individually. Using the shade sensor dimmers Lumix can be transformed from a torchiere to a reading lamp within seconds.

Lovely.

Novel Idea: Book Sensitive Reading Lamp

Novel Idea: Book Sensitive Reading Lamp

book sensitive reading light 500x240 Novel Idea: Book Sensitive Reading Lamp
Novel idea (get it? novel?). The book sensitive reading lamp is a simple concept. When you turn it on, it’s just like a regular reading light by your bedside that you can curl up with a good book to. When you’re done reading and ready to go to sleep, just place the book open to your saved page on top of the lamp and it will turn off. So it’s like a bookmark and a light in one. Yeah, it’s a horrible way to store a book if you intend on keeping them long term, but it does the trick. Not compatible with your Kindle. So far it’s just a design concept but it could be done.
