What Pot is This?

November 24th, 2009 Techno Wizkid No comments

So you’d like to relax in your bathroom. Seems pretty reasonable. Do you like flowers? That’s good, because that’s today’s solution to your relaxation problem, and it’s presented by 2-B-2 Architecture. Turn your bathroom into a lovely pottery barn with these bits of WC furniture – fine to see, fine to touch, fine to… use.

How do these lovely pots work differently from other bathrooms with flowers on them?

To empty the water in the toilet, you simply put a bit of pressure on the lid. Takes away a whole step, right? Same thing for the faucets – they turn on with a light tap. I imagine you’re used to washing your hands in sinks in malls and restaurants that use this energy-saving “timed” device – one touch, a bit of water, done. The bathtub – that is normal. As normal as a bathtub that looks like a flower pot with flowers on it can look.

In this set there’s a toilet bowl, a bidet, a sink, and a bathtub. Upon installation of these flowery items, extra flower decals are applied or painted into the bathroom area.

TC50: Demopit Winner Chyngle Creates In-Pocket Mobile Marketing Apps For Stadiums

September 16th, 2009 Techno Wizkid No comments

What if the next time you went to a football game, there was an iPhone app for that stadium that listed all the bathrooms nearest you, all the food stalls (with menus and the ability to order from your seat), a button to contact medical assistance, and the ability to find car pools back home? One of today’s Demopit winners at TechCrunch50 is Chyngle, has created a branded app for the University of Michigan which does just that.

Chyngle’s branded apps use GPS to find out your location and discover services and people nearby. It shows them as red dots on a seating chart of the stadium. If you want to order a slice of pizza, you can send an SMS message to one of the pizza vendors and they will deliver it to your seat. CEO Todd Sullivan calls it “in-pocket marketing.”

If you want to find tickets for sale by other fans or a ride home, the app lets you call them anonymously (the calls are routed through Chyngle).

The company charges the venue a $2,000 a month for the app, and can create custom apps for any event location.

During the Q&A, the judges suggest changing the name. “My second company was called Plaxo,” says Sean Parker, “people thought it was a dental problem.” They also suggested making it a free app and creating different ones for every big venue like Madison Square Gardens

A Room With A View

August 8th, 2009 Techno Wizkid No comments

Right from the Five-Star gilded service to behind the bushes; I’ve used many kinda bathrooms in my life. And the two things that contribute towards making an impressionable one are ambiance and cleanliness. At home, you would want to create a bathroom that’s functional yet chic. Easy to maintain (ugh lime scales) yet classy. One such bathroom design that fits the bill is the Wavflow concept. Clean and uncluttered, the soft waves-like finishing creates a rejuvenating atmosphere.

Materials Used:

  • Blueish pearl white fiberglass as exterior of fixtures
  • Brushed steel sheet as interior of fixtures
  • Chrome steel faucets
  • White ash wood hooks
  • Silicone coating to prevent slippery surfaces

Samsung New Touchscreen Vending Machines

July 7th, 2009 Techno Wizkid No comments

samsung-vending-machine_01While I was at CES last January, I remember seeing a very unique vending machine near the bathrooms. It was a Coke machine with a small touchscreen, and it had quite a line to it. In retrospect, I wished I had waited in line to see it up close. I didn’t stop there for two reasons: I doubted whether the soda was free and I would have spent way too much time analyzing the thing for an article.

I don’t remember the company who made the vending machine, but if I had to take a guess, I would have to say Samsung. The company has recently partnered with Kraft foods to create a new kind of vending machine with a 46-inch LCD touchscreen panel.

So there is no more entering the letter and number for selecting your snack. You just touch the snack that you want on the screen. The best part of a touchscreen display is that if you want to see the nutritional information, you just touch the proper place and there it is.

This is a boost by Samsung to increase the LCD touchscreen vending machine business. I like the way these people are thinking. I do have one quick question: do they still use those coils to hold the snack foods? You know, those types that occasionally leave a long awaiting piece of candy hanging. How would you know if that occurred if the touchscreen was there? Maybe you could rock it back and forth and hope something comes out.

The Wireless Bathroom Speaker

If  you’re not fond of the cases that although do protect your iPod in the shower, it still requires that your iPod be near water, you might like this wireless idea.  With this you can have your music playing in the shower, all the while your iPod is tucked safely away somewhere nice and dry.  Plus for the guys there’s a fogless mirror so you can shave in the shower.   Just mount it to the shower wall and you’ll have an endless supply of music, well at least until the batteries die.

In addition to being able to play music from your iPod, it also has an FM radio.  Which offers you a little more versatility if your iPod doesn’t have enough music on it for your tastes.  While you’re in the shower you can also keep track of the time since there is an LCD clock.  One down side is that having this in the bathroom means anyone can have music in the shower.  Even those that sing painfully off key.  You can purchase the Wireless Bathroom Speaker for £24.95 or about $40.
